She will be "preserved" by Raising Godly Children

Thoughts for moms who are raising giants...
Today's post is from Chapter 11 of "A Woman's High Calling" by Elizabeth George (page 162):


"1 Timothy 2:15 "She will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control."
This verse is not about the eternal salvation of the soul from sin, which is only through Jesus Christ. Rather it is about the salvation of woman's dignity and honor, which were lost when she was tempted and deceived by the serpent in Genesis 3 (see 1 Timothy 2:14). Actually, "saved" is better translated "preserved." As my pastor puts it, "Paul is teaching that even though a woman bears the stigma of being the initial instrument that led the race into sin, it is women through childbearing who may be preserved or freed from that stigma by raising a generation of godly children...While a woman may have led the human race into sin, women have the privilege of leading many out of sin to godliness." If you are a mother, you have a most wonderful task before you in positively influencing the generations to come from Jesus Christ! Hear how a few familiar stanzas of poetry express this influence:

Raising Giants

I am not the day-dreaming kind of person, but if you would have ask me 6 years ago, when I had one baby girl and was just starting my venture into motherhood, what my thoughts were on raising children, I would have probably told you back then that I just hope I can keep up with her, and do my best.
A few years later and around the time I had our second daughter, I would have told you that I was not raising children, I am raising adults. I have to remember that what we instill and teach our children now is what makes the the person they will become and are becoming right before our very eyes. I also have to remember to never keep them in a box. They are always growing, always learning and reaching new heights. I do not want to limit them or hold them down from becoming all that God has planned for their lives.
Now our girls are 6 and 4 years old. And now, if I step back and look at the whole picture, I can see that I do not have to be just raising adults, I could be (and very well may be) raising gaints!
The thought is both humbling and exciting.
First of all, it is not my doing! I can no more raise adults then I can grow a plant! If you know me, it is a miracle that any plant can grow if I am the one who is supposed to tend to it! It is only by God's good will that any plant can grow around me, and I really know it is His will and doing if a plant actually thrives enough to produce flowers or food or seed!
For me it is the same when I see my children growing, learning and thriving. I know it is God's doing. I couldn't do it without Him. He is the One leading, the One in charge of it all. And by and thru Him, I can see that our chidlren are capable of becoming giants. Spiritual Giants.
Now the only plans "I" have for raising my children are to continue to keep them rooted in God's Word, in Truth and to encourage them in His ways, and pray hard.

I know the path ahead will not be easy, and I don't think it should be easy. If you are going to go hand and hand with God, it's not intended to be easy, but you do have His Hand! That is what you have to always remember.

So hold on tight to His Hand, have faith, and raise gaints.
